Synopsis
The movie follows the developing friendship between two men in Los Angeles who share a passion for gambling. Bill Denny (George Segal), a casual gambler who works a day job at a magazine, meets Charlie Waters (Elliott Gould), a wisecracking professional gambler.
Plot: As their friendship deepens, Bill becomes more deeply entrenched in the gambling lifestyle, mirroring Charlie's life and accumulating significant debt with a bookie. To finance a trip to Reno for a high-stakes poker game, Bill pawns his belongings, including his car.
Climax: In Reno, Bill and Charlie pool their money to enter a major poker game where Bill goes on an incredible winning streak, eventually accumulating a large sum of money.
Ending: Despite his massive winnings, the experience leaves Bill emotionally drained and empty. He decides to quit gambling and go home, much to the confusion of Charlie, and they part ways. |
