Plot Summary
The movie follows Josephine Monaghan, a young woman from a respectable East Coast family who is disowned after having a child out of wedlock. To survive the harsh and male-dominated American West in 1866, she makes the bold decision to disguise herself as a man, adopting the identity of "Jo". She finds work in a mining camp in Idaho and lives the rest of her life as a man, facing prejudice, fear, and the challenges of the frontier while grappling with her identity.
