About the Film
Plot: Alex Rogan, a teenager in a mobile home park, dreams of going to college but is denied a loan. After he breaks the high score on a Starfighter arcade game, the game's creator, Centauri, reveals it was actually a test to find talented pilots for a real galactic conflict. Alex must then use his video game skills to pilot a Gunstar fighter ship and save the Star League from the evil Ko-Dan Armada.
Cast: The film stars Lance Guest as Alex Rogan and features Robert Preston in his final theatrical film role as Centauri, the recruiter. It also stars Catherine Mary Stewart and Dan O'Herlihy.
Significance: The Last Starfighter is notable for being one of the first films to extensively use computer-generated imagery (CGI) for its space battle scenes, alongside Disney's Tron (1982). |
