About the Europe-Canada Line
Company History: The Europa-Canada Linie was established in Bremen in 1955 as a joint venture between the Holland America Line (HAL) and the Koninklijke Rotterdamsche Lloyd (KRL) to transport emigrants from Germany to North America. HAL became the sole owner in 1963, and the line ceased operations in 1967 due to the rise of air travel.
Vessels: The company primarily operated the MS Seven Seas, which was chartered in 1955 and later purchased in 1956. The Seven Seas was a rebuilt U.S. freighter that had previously served as a US Navy escort carrier during World War II. The SS Ryndam was also transferred to the line temporarily in 1966.
Routes: The main service route was between Bremerhaven, Germany, and Montreal, Canada.
