Shell-Mex & BP Ltd. in 1937, titled "Temple Bar," and created by the artist Edward Alfred William Scroggie. It was part of the iconic "To Visit Britain's Landmarks" or "You can be sure of Shell" campaign.

Subject: The poster features a stylised, picturesque view of the Temple Bar folly, a historic architectural landmark designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The actual gate was removed from its original London location in 1878 and relocated to the grounds of a country estate, where it became a folly.
Significance: The series is famous for presenting modern art to the public by using a variety of contemporary artists to create posters that were displayed on the sides of petrol stations and delivery lorries. |
