Company History: Ellerman Lines was a major British shipping company, one of the largest in the world at its peak, operating both cargo and passenger services across the globe, including to India. The "City Line" originated as George Smith & Sons in Glasgow in 1840 and was acquired by John Ellerman in 1901.
