One sheet the vintage "jungle" exploitation film
"Kidnapping Gorillas", also known by its primary release title, "Love Life of a Gorilla". The film was originally shot as a silent documentary titled The Gorilla Hunt in 1926 by Ben Burbridge, who led an expedition to capture live gorillas for zoos in America.
Film Information
Original Title: The Gorilla Hunt
Primary Release Title: Love Life of a Gorilla
Reissue Title: "Kidnapping Gorillas"
Release Year: 1937 (reissue date for this poster), though some sources list the film as early as 1934.
Synopsis: The film documents an expedition into Central Africa to capture live gorillas, featuring footage of both captured young gorillas and a slain adult. Later reissues like the one advertised here used sensationalist marketing, promising "jungle secrets bared" and "wild women half human half ape" to exploit public interest in the wake of films like King Kong.
Status: The only known copy of the original silent film belonged to Errol Flynn and was later donated to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City for restoration. |
