Symbolism: The runner is holding a laurel branch, a traditional symbol of victory. Wavy lines at the bottom of the poster in red, white, and blue represent the colors of the Dutch national flag.
Historical Context: While initially chosen as the official poster design, a later legal dispute over copyright in the 1990s led the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to adopt a different image as the official poster for the Games. |
