Often called the "Maharaja of Magic" or "The Emperor of Magic" (Jadusamrat), Sorcar was a globally renowned illusionist who brought Indian magic to the world stage in the mid-20th century. Era: The poster is estimated to be from the 1940s or 1950s, a period when he was internationally active. Significance: Sorcar was celebrated for his elaborate stage sets, flamboyant costumes (like the plumed turban seen in the portrait), and grand illusions, including the famous buzz saw trick that caused a sensation on BBC television in 1956.
