"Solo: A Star Wars Story". The film is a stand-alone Star Wars adventure that details the origin story of Han Solo, following his escapades within the criminal underworld roughly a decade before the events of the original 1977 Star Wars film.
Synopsis
The film follows a young Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich) as he attempts to escape his home planet of Corellia with his love interest, Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke). After they are separated, Han joins the Imperial Navy, later deserting and falling in with a gang of smugglers led by Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson). Their journey involves:
Meeting Chewbacca: Han is thrown into a pit with a Wookiee prisoner named Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), and they form their lifelong bond.
The Millennium Falcon: In need of a fast ship for a high-stakes heist, Han encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) and challenges him for his ship, the Millennium Falcon.
The Kessel Run: The team attempts to steal unrefined coaxium (starship fuel) from the mines on Kessel, forcing Han to pilot the Falcon through the dangerous and uncharted Kessel Run in just twelve parsecs to escape an Imperial blockade.
The movie was released in theaters on May 25, 2018, and received a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 91st Academy Awards. |
