Yellow Submarine, the 1968 animated musical fantasy film inspired by the music of The Beatles. The psychedelic artwork was created by the Czech-German illustrator and designer Heinz Edelmann.
The film tells the story of the music-loving paradise of Pepperland, which is invaded by the music-hating Blue Meanies. Old Fred, the mayor's trusted sailor, escapes in the Yellow Submarine to Liverpool, England, where he recruits the Beatles to help save his home. The Beatles journey through surreal seas—including the Sea of Time, the Sea of Science, and the Sea of Monsters—and use the power of music and love to defeat the Blue Meanies and restore color and harmony to Pepperland.
The film premiered in the United Kingdom on July 17, 1968, and in the United States on November 13, 1968. |
