movie poster for Alfred Hitchcock's 1956 film, The Man Who Knew Too Much, starring James Stewart and Doris Day. The film is a suspense thriller about an American family on vacation in Morocco who gets entangled in an international assassination plot when their son is kidnapped.
The Movie
Synopsis: While on vacation in Marrakech, Dr. Ben McKenna (Stewart) and his wife Jo (Day), a former singer, witness the murder of a French secret agent who, before dying, whispers details of a planned political assassination in London. Their son is then kidnapped to ensure their silence, forcing the couple to go to London to find him and stop the assassination.
Production: The film was a commercial success and a color remake of Hitchcock's own 1934 British film of the same name, which had a different plot and script. Hitchcock considered the 1956 version the work of a "professional".
Notable Fact: Doris Day's song "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)", which she reluctantly performed in the film, became her signature song and won the 1956 Academy Award for Best Original Song. |
