Synopsis
The plot follows Jed Cooper (Clint Eastwood), an innocent man who is falsely accused of cattle rustling and murder, then lynched by a posse and left for dead. He survives the hanging and is saved by a U.S. Marshal, after which he is cleared by Judge Fenton. Fenton offers him a job as a Deputy U.S. Marshal, with the condition that he must bring the lynchers in alive for a legal trial rather than seeking personal vengeance.
This movie marked Clint Eastwood's return to American Westerns after his success in the Italian "Spaghetti Western" trilogy with Sergio Leone, and was the first production by his own company, The Malpaso Company. |
