The Witches

The Witches - Mounted (Poster) US One sheet movie poster original 1990 U.S. one-sheet movie poster for The Witches. This dark fantasy comedy film is based on the novel by Roald Dahl and was notable as the final film produced by Jim Henson before his death. Key Information Release Date: May 25, 1990 (UK); August 24, 1990 (US). Director: Nicolas Roeg. Production Company: Jim Henson Productions and Lorimar Film Entertainment. Starring: Anjelica Huston as the terrifying Grand High Witch, Mai Zetterling as the knowledgeable Grandmother Helga, and Jasen Fisher as the young protagonist Luke. Plot: A young boy on vacation with his grandmother discovers a hotel hosting a convention of witches who plan to turn all the children in England into mice using a magical formula. After overhearing their plan, he is transformed into a mouse and must find a way to stop them. Reception: Although author Roald Dahl famously disliked the film's altered "happy ending," the movie was well-received by critics and has developed a significant cult following over the years, largely due to Anjelica Huston's iconic performance and the impressive special effects by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The artwork on the poster was created by artist Greg Winters.
