Family Dog

Family Dog - After (Poster) Concert Poster original handbill for an early Family Dog dance concert held on November 6, 1965, at Longshoremen's Hall in San Francisco. Concert Details Promoter: The Family Dog collective Event: "A Tribute to Ming the Merciless!" Date: November 6 (Some printed handbills were mistakenly dated November 3-4) Location: Longshoremen's Hall, Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, CA Performers: The Mothers (later known as the Mothers of Invention) and The Charlatans MC: Don Sturdy Admission: $2.50 for students, $3.00 general admission Artist: Ami Magill Historical Significance This event was one of the earliest "happenings" or psychedelic dances in San Francisco, which helped define the counterculture of the 1960s. The handbill is unnumbered in the main Family Dog series, which began later in 1966. The event used a comic book theme, which was popular for the first few Family Dog dances. This handbill is considered prohibitively rare and highly valuable among collectors of psychedelic rock posters and memorabilia.
