The film is an adaptation of the well-known novel of the same name by Veniamin Kaverin. A television mini-series adaptation was also released in 1976. The Vow: The novel and film are famous for the motto: "Fight and seek, find and not give up". Adulthood: Sanya grows up to become a polar aviator and marries Katya Tatarinova, the captain's daughter. He eventually finds the remains of the lost expedition during World War II, exposing the villainy of those responsible for its demise.
