Dunlop Le Mans

Dunlop Le Mans - Mounted (Poster) One sheet vintage poster is a Dunlop advertisement commemorating their successes at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Race Results and Highlights Overall Winner: The race was won by the Jaguar Cars Ltd team with drivers Peter Walker and Peter Whitehead in a Jaguar XK-120C, marking the first Le Mans victory for Jaguar. Other Podium Finishes: The poster highlights that Dunlop-fitted cars took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place overall. The second-place finisher was a private entry Talbot-Lago T26GS, and third place was an Aston Martin DB2. Index of Performance: Dunlop-equipped cars also secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Index of Performance, a classification based on distance covered relative to engine capacity. Record Lap: A new record lap speed of 105.1 mph was set during the race, also by a Dunlop-fitted car. This was achieved by Stirling Moss in another Jaguar C-type, though his car eventually retired. This event, held on June 23rd and 24th, 1951, marked the beginning of an era of intense competition among sports car manufacturers and the end of touring cars as top contenders at Le Mans.
