Attraction Details
Sponsor: The Santa Fe Railroad sponsored the Disneyland Railroad from its opening until 1974, and the diorama served as a cross-promotion for train travel to the real Grand Canyon.
Artist: The poster and the diorama's painted backdrop were created by Disney artist Paul Hartley and scenic artist Delmer J. Yoakum, respectively.
Experience: The attraction features a massive, seamless canvas backdrop with taxidermic animals indigenous to the canyon's South Rim, set to the "On The Trail" segment of Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite.
Expansion: In 1966, the diorama was expanded to include the Primeval World segment, featuring Audio-Animatronic dinosaurs originally showcased at the 1964 New York World's Fair. |
