Synopsis
The film starts as a police procedural when New Mexico State Police Sergeant Ben Peterson (James Whitmore) discovers mysterious deaths and a catatonic young girl. He teams up with FBI agent Robert Graham (James Arness) and myrmecologists (ant experts) Dr. Harold Medford (Edmund Gwenn) and his daughter, Dr. Pat Medford (Joan Weldon), to investigate.
They discover a nest of gigantic, mutated ants. After destroying the initial nest, they find that two queen ants have escaped to establish new colonies, leading to a race against time to stop them before they spread globally. The final confrontation takes place in the storm drain system of Los Angeles.
