Opening Date: August 5, 1967, as a centerpiece of the "New Tomorrowland".
Closing Date: September 2, 1985.
Replacement: The attraction was replaced by the Star Tours flight simulator, which opened in early 1987.
Ride System: It was the first Disney attraction to use the innovative Omnimover system (called "Atomobiles") that allowed ride vehicles to be directed toward show elements, a technology later used in rides like the Haunted Mansion.
Experience: Guests were "shrunk" down through a giant microscope ("Monsanto's Mighty Microscope") to explore the molecular and atomic levels of a snowflake, narrated by Paul Frees. The journey featured the song "Miracles from Molecules" by the Sherman Brothers.
