One sheet Earl Carroll Vanities
is a 1945 American musical and romance film produced by Republic Pictures. The film is not a direct adaptation of the real-life Broadway revue of the same name but is a fictional story set around it.
Plot Summary
The story follows Drina (Constance Moore), a European princess who comes to New York with her conservative mother, the Queen Mother Elena, to secure a loan to bail out their financially troubled kingdom of Turania. While in the U.S., Drina reconnects with an old music teacher, Tex Donnelly (Eve Arden), who owns a local club. Drina sneaks out to visit the club, where she meets Tex's business partner, Danny Baldwin (Dennis O'Keefe), and takes piano lessons from him. When the featured singer gets injured, Drina takes her place and performs for Broadway producer Earl Carroll (Otto Kruger), who is impressed.
The plot thickens as both Danny and Tex fall for Drina, all while she is secretly engaged to the alcoholic Grand Duke Paul. Drina faces a predicament when her mother demands she return to Europe and break off her contacts with the club owner and producer.
