The Rising Sons

The Rising Sons (Poster) Concert poster advertising a series of performances by the blues and folk-rock band The Rising Sons at the Ash Grove club in Los Angeles, which took place from June 29 to July 11, 1965. Event Details Band: The Rising Sons, featuring Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder. Venue: The Ash Grove, a legendary Los Angeles folk and blues club located at 8162 Melrose Avenue. Dates: June 29 through July 11. Year: The performances occurred in 1965. Band Members: The primary members during this era were Taj Mahal (vocals, harmonica, guitar, piano), Ry Cooder (guitars, vocals), Jesse Lee Kincaid (guitar, vocals), Gary Marker (bass), and drummer Ed Cassidy (later replaced by Kevin Kelley). The Rising Sons were known for their unique blend of blues, folk, and rock music and became the unofficial "house band" at the Ash Grove. Although they gained a significant local following and signed with Columbia Records, their album was not released at the time due to the label's uncertainty about how to market their sound, and the band broke up in 1966. Most of their recordings languished in vaults until a compilation album was released in 1992.
