The Quick and the Dead - After (Poster) vintage concert poster for a Grateful Dead show, known by the nickname "The Quick and The Dead". It is cataloged as FD-12 in the Family Dog series of posters and was designed by artist Wes Wilson for shows at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco on June 10 & 11, 1966. Poster Details Main Performers: The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service received top billing. Opening Act: The New Tweedy Brothers also performed. Venue: Avalon Ballroom on Sutter at Van Ness in San Francisco. Date: June 10 & 11, 1966. Artist: Wes Wilson. Significance: This poster represents the first time a skeleton image was used to promote the Grateful Dead, a motif that would later become a significant part of the band's iconography. The central image of the dandy skeleton smoking a cigar is an adaptation of an old woodcut by the 19th-century Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada.
