Quad movie poster for
The Sure Thing, a 1985 American romantic comedy road film. Directed by Rob Reiner in his second directorial effort, the film stars John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga.
Movie Summary
The story follows two college students, Walter "Gib" Gibson (John Cusack) and Alison Bradbury (Daphne Zuniga), who are complete opposites attending the same New England university. Gib is a "beer-guzzling slob," while Alison is a "buttoned-up," studious overachiever.
The plot kicks off when:
Gib travels to California for Christmas break after his friend Lance (Anthony Edwards) promises him a "sure thing"—a beautiful woman who "doesn't take much to woo".
Alison is also headed to Los Angeles to visit her "safe," long-distance boyfriend.
The two end up carpooling across the country, enduring a "road trip from hell" that includes being stranded and hitchhiking. Despite their initial mutual dislike, they eventually develop a genuine romantic connection.
