About the Artwork
The piece, titled The Beatles, was commissioned to be the front and back dust jacket covers for a book about the band written by Geoffrey Stokes and published by NY Times Books/Rolling Stone.
Technique: Warhol used his signature silk-screen printmaking method, combining vibrant color blocks with hand-drawn lines.
Source Imagery: The portraits are based on a photograph by celebrity photographer Dezo Hoffmann.
Format: It was originally issued as a removable fold-out poster insert included with the first edition of the 1980 book. |
