Paris A Londres - After (Poster) Previously mounted, restoration only vintage travel poster, titled "Paris à Londres par Rouen, Dieppe et Newhaven," was created by the French artist Jean-Jacques Rousseau (also spelled Roussau) around 1920. Poster Details Artist: Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Commissioned by: It was a joint advertisement for the Chemins de Fer de l'État (French State Railways) and the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SCR). Subject: The artwork features an idyllic, cartoon-like scene of a young man in a striped boating blazer punting a barge on a peaceful stretch of the River Thames. Route: It promoted the scenic railway and ferry route from Paris (Gare St Lazare) to London (Waterloo Station) via the stops of Rouen, Dieppe, and Newhaven. Historical Context: At the time, this journey typically took about 12 hours: a six-hour train ride to the coast followed by a six-hour cross-channel trip by steamship.
