Lost Planet Airmen

Lost Planet Airmen - Mounted (Poster) One sheet movie poster for Lost Planet Airmen, a 1951 American science fiction compilation film. Despite the title, the film does not actually feature a "lost planet"; it is a feature-length condensation of the 12-part 1949 Republic Pictures serial King of the Rocket Men. Plot Overview The story follows Jeff King, a scientist and member of a group called "Science Associates". He uses a top-secret, atomic-powered rocket backpack and a streamlined flying helmet to become a "Rocket Man" superhero. The Conflict: King must stop the mysterious and evil Dr. Vulcan, a shadowy saboteur who is murdering scientists and stealing advanced weapons to sell to foreign powers. The Stakes: Dr. Vulcan plots to destroy New York City using a sonic ray device capable of causing massive earthquakes and flooding. Main Cast Actor Role Tristram Coffin Jeff King / Rocket Man Mae Clarke Glenda Thomas (a reporter/photographer) Don Haggerty Tony Dirken House Peters, Jr. Burt Winslow James Craven Professor Millard I. Stanford Jolley Professor Bryant (also credited as the voice/identity of Dr. Vulcan) Production & Legacy Director: Fred C. Brannon. Writers: Royal K. Cole, William Lively, and Sol Shor. Connection to Music: The 1960s country rock band Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen took their name directly from this film after the founder, George Frayne IV, saw it and found it "so bad it was great".
