One sheet vintage travel poster, titled
"Siracusa," was created around 1950 by the Italian artist Filippo Romoli.
The artwork was commissioned by the Ente Provinciale per il Turismo (EPT) to promote tourism to Syracuse, Sicily. It features a striking composition that blends classical and natural elements:
Statue of Venus: The central figure is the Aphrodite Landolina (or Venus Landolina), a famous Roman marble copy of a Greek statue housed in the Paolo Orsi Regional Archaeological Museum in Syracuse.
Greek Theater: In the background, Romoli depicts a stylized outline of the city's ancient Greek Theater, one of the largest in the world.
Papyrus Plants: The tall, feathery plants framing the statue represent the papyrus that grows uniquely in the Fonte Aretusa in Syracuse.
Original lithographs of this poster are rare collectibles, while modern reproductions are widely available as fine art prints on various materials. |
