Las Islas Marías, the character Felipe Ortiz (played by Pedro Infante) does not actually commit the crime for which he is imprisoned. He is sent to the penal colony after falsely confessing to a murder actually committed by his sister, Alejandra.
Plot Details
The Sacrifice: After his sister kills a man, Felipe chooses to take the blame to protect her and the family's honor.
The Sentence: He is sentenced to serve time at the Islas Marías Penal Colony, a real-life island prison in Mexico often referred to as the "Mexican Alcatraz".
The Experience: The movie portrays the harsh reality of life for inmates, including forced labor in salt mines under the intense sun. Despite the injustice, Felipe finds a path to redemption and personal growth during his time there.
