Concert poster This rare poster advertises a performance by the
Ramones and a band called Maze at Andrew Warde High School (Fairfield, CT) on Saturday, May 29, 1976.
Historical Significance
Extremely Early Gig: This was one of the Ramones' earliest known performances outside of the New York City area. It took place just one month after the release of their self-titled debut album in April 1976.
Bizarre Billing: At this point in their career, the Ramones were relatively unknown and were booked as a "warm-up" act for the high school band Maze. Eyewitness accounts describe a "hostile audience reaction" from students more interested in southern rock than the emerging punk scene.
Iconic Artwork: The illustration of Joey Ramone featured on the poster uses the same artwork originally created for the cover of the April 1976 edition of Punk magazine. |
