Fine art by Dali The Judgement of Paris
is an etching by Salvador Dalí, created in 1963 as part of his Mythology suite. The artwork is a hand-colored drypoint etching and engraving on Japon paper.
The print is based on the Greek mythological story of the Judgement of Paris. In the myth, the Trojan prince Paris is asked to choose the fairest of three goddesses: Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. Each goddess attempts to bribe him, and he ultimately chooses Aphrodite, who promises him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen of Sparta, which ultimately leads to the Trojan War.
Dalí used a method he called "hasard objectif" (the meaningful manifestation of chance), often starting with an abstract smudge and developing the theme from it. |
