"Shockorama" double feature, an infamous pairing of two horror-western cult classics directed by William Beaudine.
Double Feature Details
Released by Embassy Pictures, the "Shockorama" show featured:
Billy the Kid vs. Dracula (1966): Stars John Carradine as Dracula, who travels to the Old West to claim a rancher’s fiancée as his bride, only to be stopped by a reformed Billy the Kid. Carradine later famously described this as the worst film of his career.
Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966): Follows outlaw Jesse James as he encounters a granddaughter of the original Dr. Frankenstein, who is conducting brain transplant experiments in a hilltop mansion.
Production & Legacy
The Director: Both films were shot simultaneously in just eight days and served as the final feature films for William Beaudine, a prolific director who worked from the silent era through the mid-1960s.
Reception: These movies are considered quintessential "so-bad-they're-good" camp classics. They were frequently shown as Saturday morning matinees and have since developed a dedicated following among fans of B-movies and cult cinema. |
