Building an Engine - Mounted (Poster) 40 x 50 Royal Quad "Building an Engine at Crewe Works," was created by the renowned British artist Norman Wilkinson (R.I.) around 1930. It was commissioned by the London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) as part of their "The Best Way" series (No. 84) to promote rail travel and highlight the company's industrial prowess. It depicts lines of steam locomotives under construction, surrounded by fitters, engineers, and boilermakers. Artist Background: Norman Wilkinson (1878–1971) was a famous marine and railway artist who is also credited with inventing dazzle camouflage used to protect ships during World War I.
