Artistic Details Artists: The poster is a legendary collaboration between Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley. Design Inspiration: The central image is "borrowed" and adapted from a 1896 Art Nouveau advertisement for JOB cigarette rolling papers by the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha. Symbolism: By adding vivid psychedelic colors—specifically the flowing green hair—and retaining the cigarette, Mouse and Kelley created a subtle endorsement of recreational drug use (specifically marijuana) prevalent in the 1960s counterculture.
