Grateful Dead

Grateful Dead - After (Poster) Concert poster FD-26 "Skeleton & Roses" poster, widely considered one of the most famous and valuable psychedelic rock posters ever created. Poster History & Origins: Event: It was designed to promote two Grateful Dead performances at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco on September 16 and 17, 1966. Artists: Created by the legendary duo Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley for Family Dog Productions. Design: The central skeleton is an adaptation of an illustration by Edmund J. Sullivan from a 1913 edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Mouse and Kelley discovered the image in the San Francisco Public Library and added the vibrant red and blue colors. Legacy: This imagery became so synonymous with the band that it was used for their 1971 self-titled live album, commonly known as "Skull & Roses".
