Maurin Quina

Maurin Quina - Mounted (Poster) Small vintage advertising poster for Maurin Quina, a French apéritif, created in 1906 by the renowned artist Leonetto Cappiello. Cappiello is often hailed as the "father of modern advertising" for his innovative use of bold, simplified figures that "pop" against solid dark backgrounds .Poster Imagery and Symbolism The Green Devil: The mischievous green imp (or "green devil") is one of Cappiello's most famous characters. It was a radical departure from the floral, romantic advertising styles of the time. Absinthe Connection: The choice of a green creature is believed to be a subtle reference to la fée verte ("the green fairy"), a common nickname for absinthe, which was immensely popular during the Belle Époque. The Product: Maurin Quina is a cherry-flavored liqueur with hints of quinine. Interestingly, the beverage went out of production the same year the poster was released and was only recently reintroduced to the market.
