Italy - Mounted (Poster) One sheet, travel poster vintage travel poster titled "Italy via Jet Clipper," created by American illustrator Aaron Fine for Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) around 1959. Poster Details & History The poster was part of a series commissioned by Pan Am to promote international travel during the dawn of the "Jet Age". In 1958, Pan Am became the first commercial airline to offer transatlantic jet service using Boeing 707 aircraft, and this vibrant artwork aimed to capture the glamour and speed of this new era. Subject: It features a stylized Italian Carabinieri officer in a traditional black and red ceremonial uniform, tipped hat in a greeting salute. Landmarks: The primary background element is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, rendered in a bright yellow, with other architectural landmarks like the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica suggested in the lower skyline. Artist: Aaron Fine (1916–1963) was known for his colorful, mid-century modern aesthetic.
