Poster Details
Artist: Gert Sellheim (1901–1970), an influential Estonian-born Australian architect and graphic designer known for creating the original Qantas "flying kangaroo" logo.
Commissioned By: The Australian National Travel Association (ANTA) to capture the spirit and diversity of Australia.
Design Elements: The central motif is a large, colorful boomerang decorated with symbols representing various aspects of Australia, including Indigenous-inspired art, a woman in a swimsuit, fish, and palm trees. The background features blue-toned illustrations of Australian wildlife such as a crocodile and a kangaroo.
Original Specifications: The original was an offset lithograph measuring approximately 39.3 x 24.8 inches (100 x 63 cm), printed by McLaren & Co. in Melbourne. |
