Cosmic Monsters - After (Poster) One sheet for the 1958 science fiction horror film "Cosmic Monsters," which was originally released in the UK under the title The Strange World of Planet X. This British "B-movie" was directed by Gilbert Gunn and is notable for being part of a 1950s sci-fi trilogy starring American actor Forrest Tucker. Movie Summary The plot centers on a monomaniacal scientist, Dr. Laird, who conducts secret experiments with high-intensity magnetic fields in a rural English lab. His meddling inadvertently "punches a hole" in the Earth's ionosphere, allowing cosmic rays to bombard the area. This radiation causes local insects and spiders to mutate into flesh-eating giants. A mysterious, benevolent alien known as "Mr. Smith" arrives from space to warn the scientists of the deadly consequences of their experiments before ultimately helping to resolve the crisis. Key Cast and Details Forrest Tucker as Dr. Gil Graham Gaby André as Michele Dupont Martin Benson as Smith (the alien visitor) Alec Mango as Dr. Laird Special Effects: Created by Les Bowie, the "monsters" were mostly actual insects filmed in extreme close-up and optically enlarged. The film was often paired as a double feature in the U.S. with The Trollenberg Terror (retitled The Crawling Eye).
