We restored this beautiful one sheet for Antikbar back in 2022. It's a famous vintage travel poster for Beatenberg Niederhorn
in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, created in 1945 by the renowned Swiss poster artist Martin Peikert.
Peikert was a master of mid-century Swiss poster art, and this piece is considered one of his classic works. It illustrates his signature themes of "swishing" chairlifts and picturesque mountain ranges. The scene depicts a fashionably dressed couple enjoying a ride on a chairlift—completed in 1946—with the snow-capped peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau in the background and Lake Thun in the distance. The man is shown waving to visitors on a sun terrace below, capturing the playful and relaxed "dolce far niente" spirit typical of Peikert's posters.
Though technically not a ski poster, it does feature a ski lift and for me that's close enough! |
