Disneyland Attraction, This image is a vintage attraction poster for
Casa de Fritos
, a former restaurant in Disneyland's Frontierland. The restaurant operated from August 11, 1955, until 1982. It was sponsored by The Frito Company and was known for serving Mexican-inspired foods such as tacos, tamales, chili, and the "Taco in a 'Tacup'".
The poster also references the "Frito Kid," an early audio-animatronic figure that served as a vending machine. Guests could insert a nickel, and the Frito Kid would interact with an unseen miner named Klondike before a bag of Fritos was delivered down a chute.
An interesting piece of history associated with Casa de Fritos is the creation of Doritos. A food supplier noticed the restaurant was throwing away unused tortillas and suggested they be fried and seasoned. The resulting chips were so popular that Frito-Lay began mass-producing them, and Doritos were born. The restaurant's original location is now home to Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante. |
