Pigeonneau Picasso

Pigeonneau Picasso Fine art linocut Pablo Picasso Le Pigeonneau is a linoleum cut print by Pablo Picasso. The work is also referred to by the English title, "The Squab" or "Young Pigeon". The print, created in 1939, was published as a frontispiece for the book 40 Dessins de Picasso en Marge du Buffon ("40 Drawings by Picasso in the Margins of Buffon"). The book is a deluxe edition with a total of 226 numbered copies. The linocut technique was a medium that Picasso explored extensively between 1958 and 1968, though his initial encounter with the method was earlier in 1939. The theme of pigeons and doves was significant to Picasso throughout his career, appearing in works from his Blue Period to his famous "Dove of Peace" in 1949
