THE MUMMY

FAKE U.S. ONE SHEET RE-RELEASE, UNIVERSAL HORROR, BORIS KARLOFF, REALART RE-RELEASE
Examination under black light, light table, microscope, digital imaging, visual and tactile observation. Documentation and evaluation by Lindsay Simmons of Poster Mountain Inc.
THIS POSTER WAS NOT CONSERVED, NOR RESTORED BY POSTER MOUNTAIN INC. Poster was received initialed and dated on the lower border by owner. Poster is a reproduced one sheet of "The Mummy", printed from an ink jet (non-impact) printer in a style intending to replicate an offset lithography process. The poster appears to have been folded and is mounted on cotton canvas with a paper substrate. Under a microscope, the printer spray unique to ink jet printing (multiple color dots sprayed in order to create solid blocks of color) is apparent. The white colors are not true; instead they show cyan, magenta, yellow and black - the base colors for ink jet printing. The ink jet spray pattern is found in the other solid color blocks in this poster. Examination on a light table reveals random damage: corner tack holes, 2 stamps on the verso (upper right and lower left) read "Independent Poster Exchange", and staining in the right border. Under a blacklight the poster shows that the border has been painted and the U and M in the title have been damaged and in-painted. The fold lines have been touched up with colored pencil.
