It is based directly on an original 1863 life oil painting by Edward Dalton Marchant.Historical Commission: Late in 1862, the Union League of Philadelphia commissioned Marchant to paint Lincoln's portrait for exhibition in Independence Hall. This served as a strong gesture of public support for both the president and the Union during the American Civil War.Symbolism & Elements:The half-length portrait shows Lincoln seated comfortably at a table holding a quill.His arm rests over a document reading: "Abraham Lincoln, Jan'y 1st, 1863, Will. H. Seward.", explicitly referencing the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.In the upper right background, the base and foot of a large classical statue with broken chains symbolize the end of slavery.Publication: The mezzotint prints were officially published by Bradley and Company in 1864 to successfully meet the immense public demand for Lincoln's likeness.

PM-LAPG certifies that any individual so named is qualified to the same extent as PM to perform the task. VI) The Client may not disclose or distribute this Evaluation Report to any potential purchasers of the subject property without first obtaining PM-LAPG's prior written consent.
