Designed by the legendary poster artist Bill Gold, this particular print is an advance promotional poster featuring the classic tagline "From deep space... The seed is planted... terror grows."Key Film Details Director: Philip Kaufman Starring: Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum, and Veronica Cartwright.Source Material: Based on the 1954 sci-fi novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney.Setting: Unlike the small-town setting of the 1956 original, this version relocates the paranoia to the urban backdrop of San Francisco.Behind-the-Scenes Trivia Genuine Paranoia: During the tense taxi ride scene, actors Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams were genuinely terrified. The driver was played by Don Siegel (director of the original 1956 film), who had lost most of his vision and was navigating the dark streets of San Francisco without his glasses!A Real Accident: While filming a chase sequence on foot, Donald Sutherland was accidentally struck by a Volkswagen Beetle, landing hard on the windshield.Iconic Sound Effects: Sound designer Ben Burtt used unique methods to create the chilling soundscape. The organic thumping sound of the gestating alien pods was actually an audio recording of an ultrasound of his pregnant wife's heartbeat. The piercing, iconic "pod scream" used by the aliens was synthesized by layering pig squeals with electronic distortion and reversed human screams.Star Cameos: The film features a famous cameo from Kevin McCarthy, the star of the 1956 original. He plays a panicked man screaming warnings to passing cars, which led many fans to treat this remake as a secret chronological sequel. Actor Robert Duvall also makes a brief, uncredited appearance as a silent priest on a swing set.
