Subject & Composition The artwork advertises a motorcoach service (Autocars P.L.M.) departing from the historic city of Besançon to transport tourists through the sub-alpine landscapes of the Jura Mountains near the Swiss border.The composition frames a picturesque valley lined with small village houses along a winding path. Perched atop the dramatic, rocky cliffs in the background sits the historic Château de Joux (overlooking the pass near Pontarlier). Broders masterfully uses towering dark green fir trees in the foreground as a natural visual frame to pull the viewer's eye into the illuminated gorge.
