James Bond Is Back
Halfsheet ultra-rare 1963 British "Teaser" Double Crown movie poster used to promote the second James Bond film, From Russia with Love. Poster Background & History The Origin: This distinct day-glo poster was printed in the UK ahead of the film's late 1963 release. Rather than featuring Sean Connery's face, it relied heavily on the early typography and iconography of the franchise. The Iconic Gun Blunder: The weapon silhouetted in the center is actually a Walther LP53 air pistol. During a publicity photoshoot with Sean Connery, the production team realized they forgot to bring Bond's signature Walther PPK. The photographer, David Hurn, happened to practice target shooting as a hobby and lent his own LP53 air pistol for the photos. While they intended to airbrush out the long barrel, the iconic look stuck and was permanently used across early Bond marketing campaigns. The Design: The 007 "Gun Logo" framework seen here was initially created by designer Joseph Caroff. It features the iconic horizontal gun intersecting the numbers with flying bullet casings.
