One sheet This vintage travel poster for Air India was likely produced in the 1960s or 1970s as part of the airline's "Golden Age" of advertising. It features the iconic mascot, the Maharaja, alongside a traditional Indonesian dancer to promote flights to Jakarta.
Poster Details

Mascot: The Maharaja (also known as "The Rogue") was conceived in 1946 by Bobby Kooka, the airline's commercial director, and illustrated by artist Umesh Rao.
Artist/Studio: While many of these posters were created by the in-house Air India Design Studio in Bombay under the direction of J. B. Cowasji, this specific Jakarta design is often attributed to the airline's internal art team.
Significance: The series is famous for its humor and the Maharaja’s ability to adopt the culture of his destinations, such as playing the drum here in a traditional Indonesian setting.
