Winter in Italy
One sheet vintage Italian travel poster titled "Winter in Italy
," created in 1951 by the visual artist Alfredo Lalia (1907–1984).
It was commissioned by the ENIT (Italian National Tourist Board) as part of a post-World War II campaign to revitalize the country's tourism industry. The poster uses a clever visual metaphor to showcase Italy as a year-round destination:

The Contrast: Above the umbrella, a dark grey sky and snowflakes represent the cold winter of the north. Below the protective canopy, the scene transitions to a sunny blue sky and bright yellow stripes.
Symbolism: The sprig of Tarocco blood oranges and white blossoms highlights Italy’s warm Mediterranean climate and agricultural richness even during the "off-season."
The Series: This piece is part of a set of four posters celebrating the different seasons in Italy, designed by Lalia and fellow designer Manno Previtali.
