Douglas DC3
One sheet vintage poster features a famous
cutaway illustration of the Douglas DC-3, one of the most successful and revolutionary airliners in history.
Poster & Airline History

Airline: The poster was issued by AB Aerotransport (ABA), a Swedish government-owned airline that operated in the first half of the 20th century before merging into the SAS Group.
Significance: In 1937, ABA became the second airline in Europe (after KLM) to operate the Douglas DC-3, allowing for longer international routes, such as flights to Moscow.
Artist: While many versions of this cutaway were created for different airlines (including KLM and Swissair), they are often attributed to artists like Jean Walther (who designed a similar 1937 version for Swissair) or Anders Beckman.
Text Details: The orange box on the right contains Swedish text asking, "Vill Du veta nĂ¥got om flyget?" (Do you want to know something about flying?), promoting a model flying club as a hobby.

The Douglas DC-3 "Workhorse"

Innovation: First flown in 1935, the DC-3 was the first airliner that could turn a profit solely by carrying passengers without needing government subsidies.
Capacity: As shown in the cutaway, it typically carried 21 to 32 passengers.
Legacy: Over 13,000 units were produced, and due to its incredible reliability, many are still in operation today for cargo and specialty missions.
